While things tend to wind down in Toronto during winter there are still events going on around town. I try to keep an eye on the following sites to see what's up.
City of Toronto - festivals and events.
Tourism Toronto - events.
BlogTO - Toronto Events.
Metro Toronto Convention Centre - calendar of events.
International Centre events.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Water has started to freeze outside and the patios have been put away for some time to come. Put up some decorations, get out to the stores and buy some gifts, put a little aside for charity and enjoy the holiday season.
Besides the Cavalcade of Lights Toronto will also have a huge celebration at Nathan Phillips Square on December 31st called the Citytv New Year's Eve Bash. Citytv will have a number of celebrity hosts including Gord Martineau, Tracy Moore, Kevin Frankish and Dina Pugliese along with a number of musical guests.
Something to look forward to is the upcoming Winterlicious 2010 - part of the Winter City Festival. A chance to eat at some fine restaurants at a fixed price around town from January 29 to February 11.
It's still some time before the next installment of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) when star power can heat up the scene. We will have to wait for September for the excitement that comes from this festival.
What we could really use would be a winter's day of Haute Couture fashion around the big smoke. Jeanne Beker could host the event and describe the fashions and their impact on society. Reitmans could be a sponsor, those two guys could say Reitmans one, Huate Couture zero as everyday people dressed in Huate Couture tried to walk in the slush. Then there could be a pillow fight between Haute Couture and Ready to Wear fashionistas. This event could start slowly, a few people at a time, until it takes over city streets like the zombie walk. The colours and designs of the outrageous fashion styles would warm up the city in no time at all.
