The Toronto Caribana Festival (http://www.caribanatoronto.com/) will officially launch today (July 15, 2010) at Yonge-Dundas Square between noon and 2:00pm. Yikes, when Caribana is involved the square is jam packed with people trying to get a look at the gorgeous costumes that will be worn during the festival and parades.
The main parade is scheduled for the end of July 2010 and their website says “Toronto Caribana’s signature event is still, of course the parade itself – known now as the Scotiabank Caribana Parade being held Saturday, July 31st at Exhibition Place & Lakeshore Boulevard (10am – 6pm). Over 10,000 masquerades will participate as they strut and dance down the 3.6 km route in elaborate costumes, set to the vibrant Caribbean beats of the famed mas bands.”
The festival runs from July 15 to August 2, 2010 so there is plenty of time and events to see during summer.
