Dairy Queen undertook the major capital work project on May 10, 2011 to help celebrate their 30th anniversary. I think anyone that could get away for lunch and head down to the square was there to get some delicious cake. They called this: ‘DQ Project World’. The line of people wound around the cake and along Yonge Street and then along Dundas Street . No less that the World’s Largest Cake could feed the appreciative fans waiting for their piece of the promised cake.
The record has stood since 2006 (January in Beijing , China ) so it was time for a new World Champion. Now I wish they could have done the World’s Largest Hamburger on this day as well, and then we could have had a full lunch!
Update: The DQ people couldn't get people served fast enough. Just after 3:00pm hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds of melting ice cream was pulled off the stage and moved into a truck for disposal while hundreds of hungry people asked for ice cream still waiting in the lineup. I was disappointed not to get any and cried. Luckily I found a Starbucks who are having a half off Frappuccino sale (Frappuccino Happy Hour) - May 6-15 between 3 and 5pm.
