NASCAR Canadian Tire Series - Vortex Brake Pads 200

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series held the Vortex Brake Pads 200 race at Mosport International Raceway on Sunday June 13, 2010. JR Fitzpatrick in the Schick HYDRO #84 car takes the checkered flag and does a victory lap.

Second place was Andrew Ranger in the #27 car. Andrew has won the NCTS series the twice and currently races without a major sponsor - Walmart/Tide pulled out in 2009 and thus his current schedule in the Canadian Tire Series is limited. He now also races in the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series for Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports.

In third place was Jason Bowles in the #11 car.

Female race car driver Caitlin Johnston in the Pizza Pizza #01 car. Caitlin finished 19th in the race and later in the day competed in the Castrol Canadian Tire Touring Car Championship Race (open wheel cars) where she finished third.

During the race Jarrad Whissell of the #44 car over corrects coming out of turn 5 and ends up backwards against the concrete wall. He tries to get the car back into the race and a ruptured fuel line continues to pump gas into the hot engine compartment. UPDATE: Jarrad said that he had a little contact with the #56 car and that his brake cooling ducts caught fire. As the car starts smoking he climbs out the window and waits for the emergency crews to come to his help. Unfortunately they cannot cross the track until an all track caution comes out.

As Jarrad waits, the fire and smoke build and his frustration is evident. Eventually the emergency guys arrive but the main fire fighting equipment has some problems so one of the guys gets to work with the portable fire extinguishers. After what seems like a long time they get the main extinguisher into action and get the fire under control. All that was left was towing the car away.

See more race and fire pictures after the jump.

Caitlin speeds through turn 5.

I also thought Justin Beiber was racing in this event but it was really Gary Klutt of Halton Hills who is only 17 years old. The talented driver is a Canadian Go Cart Champ and was the youngest in the NASCAR NCTS series race at Mosport and finished  in 11th spot.
